I’d like to thank everyone who attended our first meeting. This post will relate a general gist of what decisions were finalized, and our open positions for those still interested in joining who couldn’t make it to Monday’s gathering. Also, upcoming events.
Finalized Decisions: As a team it was decided to open submission on September 17, and advertised through posters, social media, word of mouth, professors, and tabling event in the coming weeks. A pdf of the flyers will be provided soon. Open Positions: So far we have leaders for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry but need someone with an artistic eye to manage visual arts. General staff is also needed to help in the reading/viewing process once submissions begin to fill in. Positions for our production team are still open as we’ve recruited one other person, but would love at least one more. We’d like to create a new fundraising position where that person would could come up with creative ideas, and plan them out according to ICC’s guidelines. Attending the event wouldn't necessarily be a requirement for the position as we know how busy schedules can get. If you’re interested in any of the above positions or know someone perfect for the job, reach out to us and we’ll make it happen. Upcoming events: We are pleased to inform that a second In The Ords (ITO) reading at Old Capitol Books store in downtown Monterey is in the works and once more information is known we’ll send it out in a newsletter. Tabling events around campus have been submitted and pending approval through ICC. By then we expect our social media accounts to be actively posting reminders of times and locations for those who would like to receive more information or personally meet either Ryan Hall , ITO Vice President, or myself. I am confident in every individual's strengths being put together to produce another beautiful edition of In The Ords, and look forward to working with those already on board, new fresh faces, and anyone still interested in joining our team this Fall 2018 semester. Sincerely, Shirley López Ramos, President

We have some exciting plans this semester and can not wait to share them with you at our first meeting. The first In the Ords Meeting will be on Tuesday 9/11/18, from 10:30-11:30, in the Meeting House (Bld 98).
We will be discussing open positions within the club, fundraising ideas, possible collaborations with other clubs for events, and discussing/ answering questions about the general duties of our club and journal. -ITO Board The new executive board is very excited about the upcoming semester! We are planning out dates for the journal, club meetings and events. Thank you to everyone who has been keeping up with the journal through our whirlwind of a first year existing.
As a recap, the journal started in Fall 2017 publishing our first issue exclusively online (which can be found in the issue archive). In Spring 2018, we became an official club of CSUMB. We were able to publish both an online and print edition of our second issue. In the upcoming semester we are hoping to gain a presence on campus and really connect as a club. We are looking for new members across all majors to fill the positions of editors in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and visual arts, production managers handling graphic design and our website, social media experts, readers, and of course, contributors! We would love if everyone who wants to be published in the next issue of In the Ords would also join our club, but we understand if you choose not to or the wish to remain anonymous, and love you all the same for allowing us to read/view your work. Thank you all for reading! Hope you have a good first week! -Ryan, Vice President |
